WHO WE ARE
Supporting Those Who Serve Us
The Virginia Public Safety Foundation was formed in 1993 by the merging of the Virginia Silver Star Foundation, Virginia Police Foundation, and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Valor Awards Program. The aim was to create an organization that could Support Those who Serve Us.
Our Mission’s Goal is:
- Immediate Financial Assistance. We provide $2,000 to the spouse or dependent child of a slain officer and make $500 available to officers who are severely injured while performing their job.
- Educational Assistance. VPSF provides up to $3,000 per year for college or vocational school tuition to the surviving spouse or dependent children of slain officers.
- Grief Counseling and Pro bono Legal Services.
- Recognizing Outstanding Acts of Heroism: VPSF proudly administers the Governor’s Medal of Valor, the highest honor for valor in the Commonwealth of Virginia
The Virginia Public Safety Foundation is the only statewide nonprofit organization assisting all of the primary branches of public safety. This includes: Law Enforcement; Fire Fighters, Rescue and Emergency Medical Technicians, Corrections and Jail.
Our Board of Directors consists of private citizens who wish to promote professionalism in public safety service and to build mutual respect and admiration between the citizens of Virginia and the public safety officers who serve them. Support for the Foundation’s programs comes from the generosity of Virginia’s private citizens, corporate sponsors and VPSF memberships.
