Golf Tournament Raises $32,000 for VPSF

Nearly 100 VPSF members, including police officers and fire fighters, participated in the fourth annual Silver Star Golf Tournament benefiting the Virginia Public Safety Foundation (VPSF) at Augustine Golf Club in Stafford, Virginia on April 29. The event raised $32,000 for VPSF. “I’m pleased with our ability to put on a really great event and raise quite a bit of money for VPSF,” said tournament director Jim Fitzpatrick. “When you consider the overall economic environment, we raised a good bit of money”
The Silver Star tournament began in 2003 and has been the major source of revenue for VPSF ever since. Proceeds from the golf tournament go directly to funds fulfilling the mission of VPSF: to provide immediate cash grants to the families of public safety officers killed in the line of duty and to provide the families with scholarships for their education. In 2008, the tournament raised $42,000.
A team of golfers from northern Virginia claimed the first place trophy: Bill Turk; Jeff Tuten; Eddie Isler; and Jeff Brown. The second place foursome was led by Paul Schweitzer; Laurent Myers; Demertri Kovtrouvelis; and Tyler Bensten. The male and female golfers with the farthest drives were Jeff Tuten and Allison Lussier. Phil Hughes and Jessica Loveland were the golfers hitting closest to the hole.
With easy access to both Richmond and Northern Virginia members, Augustine Golf Club has hosted the tournament for four years.
